Stockmans Australian Stock Horse Stud was founded in 1974, an outstanding sire for the stud was the well performed Kyabra Radium Abbey – HSH. Abbey was successful in a wide range of horse disciplines including: led, working stockhorse, hacking, dressage, campdrafting, endurance racing, a packhorse on mountain trail rides, a pleasure horse at home but most of as sire of winning progeny.

We aim to breed horses with excellent temperament that can excel in any discipline and to maintain our Australian bloodlines we will not be using any Quarter Horse blood in our stud as we believe our Australian horses are more versatile and so uphold the Australian Stock Horse Society motto: “The Breed for every need”.

We had the honour of breeding and selling the first ASHS stallion to the USA registered for breeding when Kip Gates from Colorado bought Stockmans Swagman in 2003. Kip bred many great first cross horses by Swagman who unfortunately was killed by a lightning strike in 2018.
